AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented and hardworking Signal Operations Engineer for immediate employment.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Investigation of inquiries generated by the public at large or internal processes
- Resolution of malfunctions or application of system changes in electronic traffic control equipment, local intersections or central hosts, and associated communications systems
- Lead or assist in traffic signal system design efforts
- Lead or assist in communication system design efforts
- Operation and maintenance of signal timing plans
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and/or demonstrated equivalent, combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
- 5+ years of experience in traffic engineering/traffic operations with electronic control as primary task
- Must be able to lift between 20 pounds to 75 pounds
- Must be willing to work a rotational schedule, including, after hours and be willing to act as back up management up to one week per month
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment to complete a multitude of tasks
- Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
- Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required
- Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Devices (MUTCD)
- Experience with electronic traffic control devices, NEMA and CalTrans spec hardware
- Working knowledge of basic electrical wiring and principles, both AC and DC
- Traffic control systems experience, an example, the ability to configure, program, install and maintain electronic traffic control systems
- Ability to recognize and isolate problems by specific nature, an example, differentiate a vehicle detection failure that is causing a short timing issue versus local timing plan settings
- Working knowledge of the principles of Traffic Responsive and Adaptive signal operation
- Experience with data/telecommunications used in the Traffic Engineering industry, such as copper, fiber and wireless networks, serial and Ethernet
- Working knowledge of traffic signs and markings
- Demonstrated proficient skills in personal computer operation, specifically, office oriented applications, drafting applications and custom applications related to the management of traffic control systems.
- Familiar with a variety of field construction concepts, practices and procedures
- Ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Proven experience delivering multiple projects with various funding sources (local, state, and federal) on time and within budget
- Commitment to high standard of safety and willingness to comply with all safety laws and all safety policies, as well as reporting on safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
