Engineer III: $62,262 - $82,497/year
Engineer IV: $67,711 - $89,717/year
The Department of Transportation consists of three groups: Contracted Operations,
Capital Program Delivery and Traffic Engineering, Operations and Maintenance.
The Department maintains an infrastructure system that includes more than 2,500
miles of road, over 700 signalized intersections, thousands of miles of traffic striping,
the Gwinnett County Transit System and one of the five busiest airports in Georgia.
The Department performs this mission with 152 approved full-time positions and a
2017 adopted operating budget of just over $40 million in multiple funds.
The Traffic Engineering Division has a Traffic Signal Engineer vacancy in the Traffic
Signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Section. The Traffic Signal
Engineer may be filled at the Engineer III or Engineer IV level depending on
certifications and experience. This position is responsible for:
Performing engineering analysis and evaluation of traffic signals and other
traffic control devices;
Managing traffic signal upgrades and timing optimization projects;
Overseeing the work of engineering consultants and technicians;
Performing in-house analyses and evaluation studies to include:
conditions, reviewing existing files and revising timing plans as needed.
This is a safety-sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and
subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County
Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Engineer III:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering
Two years of progressively responsible engineering experience
Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) preferred
Valid Georgia Driver’s License
Engineer IV:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering
Four years of progressively responsible Civil Engineering experience
Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia preferred
Valid Georgia Driver’s License

- preparing technical reports of studies for division/department;
- evaluating results and determining the most appropriate and cost-effective method of repairing defects; o providing technical expertise and advice in resolving a variety of operational problems; and
conditions, reviewing existing files and revising timing plans as needed.
