The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Engineer/Associate Engineer II for their District 6 office in Charleston.
Responsibilities
Provide excellent customer service and routinely communicates with the general public. Plans, coordinates, and conducts traffic engineering studies (delay, speed, origin and destination, site distance, before and after). Uses specialized computer programs for the archiving, design, fabrication, and installation of traffic control devices. Applies SCDOT engineering standards to identify and evaluate traffic control, operation, and safety problems. Reviews construction plans, traffic studies, & encroachment permit applications. Coordinates with SCDOT headquarters and district personnel to supply needed data, plans, supplies, or equipment. Prepares responses to inquiries from others, including SCDOT personnel, state and federal agencies, and the public concerning the operation of the South Carolina highway system. Assists in training of new employees in section's operations & procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering and one year of entry-level engineering work experience; or a bachelors degree in engineering technology and three years of entry-level engineering work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Experience in traffic engineering computer programs such as Synchro, Microstation, & SignCAD. A working knowledge of state and federal traffic engineering standards and publications.
