REPORTS TO: Transportation & Public Works Director

FLSA STATUS: Exempt - Executive

CLASSIFICATION: Personnel System

PAY GRADE: 30

SAFETY SENSITIVE:  Yes - Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance
 
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, occasional weekends and evenings as needed

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this job is to manage and direct Unified Government traffic engineering functions.  Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: planning and directing the work of traffic engineering personnel, coordinating local transportation and traffic management programs, administering construction area signing programs, reviewing driveway permits, determining traffic control needs, conducting traffic and accident studies, administering neighborhood traffic management program, presenting traffic engineering studies to the Athens-Clarke County Commission, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

 
Job Related Requirements 

May be required to work on religious holidays.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Must work cooperatively with others.

When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
 

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation or related discipline with five years of related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Three years supervisory experience is required.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Must possess certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT); license as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Georgia preferred.

Traffic Engineer/Modeler - Arcadis

The Infrastructure Business Line of Arcadis is looking for a Traffic Engineer/Modeler to join the team in Atlanta, GA.

Position responsibilities to include:
  • Independently lead the preparation of engineering reports, studies and analyses in a diversity of areas including: traffic operations, safety, travel demand modeling, and transportation planning projects.
  • Perform traffic operational analysis using microscopic simulation software for corridor traffic, and interchange studies.
  • Develop scope, schedules, and fee estimates for public and private sector pursuits
Specifically, we are looking for a candidate with the interest and knowledge in traffic engineering, transportation modeling (micro, meso, and macro), and traffic operations. A successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to lead a small team of engineers. 
Typical assignments would include the following:
  • Use of Synchro and Sim Traffic for the analysis of arterial corridors and single intersections
  • Code and calibrate VISSIM models for arterial and limited access corridors
  • Perform field observations for traffic analysis
  • Analyze crash data for trends and potential mitigation strategies
  • Prepare memorandums summarizing analysis work
  • Prepare scope, schedules, and fee estimates for internal work planning and external proposals
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 4-8years of work experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be able to work well in groups as well as independently.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:  Traffic Operations Studies, development of IJR/IMRs, Safety Studies, and Travel Demand Modeling.
  • Proficient in the use of traffic analysis tools e.g., VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA, and HCS. 
  • Working knowledge of traffic operations and traffic design principles such as those discussed in the MUTCD, ITE Traffic Engineering Handbook, and FHWA Traffic Analysis Toolbox.
  • Candidate must have a driver’s license and personal transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration or ability to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Georgia
  • Experience working directly with local municipalities and/or Georgia DOT
