Those who missed the last monthly meeting missed a lot. Athens-Clarke county was our SpotlITE Agency and Rick Grisham, Exec. Director of Transportation for Cobb County School District was an excellent speaker. Plus, we had fried-green tomatos!

Over a 100 people met at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant, Cumberland (not Buckhead, Todd) on Thurs., Feb 11. Those who were there no doubt remember Johnny Gresham's advice for success in life: A.C.E. - Attitude, Confidence, Enthusiasm. We also honored the graduates of the Section's first Mentoring Program and presented section awards. Catch the next newsletter for details.

What a great turnout last week for the annual GA Tech Student Chapter cook-out. The bees were buzzing, the sun was shining, and the hot dogs were hot. A big thanks to Chapter President Alek Pochowski and the 70 or so student members who grilled out, hosted the meeting, and hopefully cleaned up after us. A good time was had by all, I'm sure.

Gerald Ross, Georgia DOT Deputy Commissioner and Chief Engineer, gave a presentation titled "GDOT's Transportation Priorities and Future Work Program"
Wow! What a turn out for the ASCE/ITE meeting last Friday. Not sure of our numbers but there was no room left in the Holiday Inn to hear Gerald Ross discuss the near-future of GDOT.

Lunch Meeting at Maggiano's Perimeter
We went to school for New Urbanism 101. Katherine Moore from the Georgia Conservancy gave a great presentation. The three main principles we learned were: Subdivide first; determine land use later
- Design streets as if they are the most important elements... because they are
- Design spaces knowing that places are made, not designed.
- Kudos for Katherine for making sustainability and environmental preservation interesting and applicable to a room full of traffic people.
Bill Rusham recorded the meeting for our first ever podcast. Look for a posting soon on the GA ITE website.
